Blackheads: What Are They And How Do You Remove Them?
By: Jason Mann
Blackheads are when the sebum and resulting bacteria are only partially trapped, slowly draining out the surface and turning black because of your skin's melanin or pigmentation. When they come into contact with air this causes them to turn black. How do you get rid of them? There are many treatments on the market that promise to get rid of your blackheads. However the only way to remove them for any period of time is to squeeze them out. IMPORTANT: Before you run to the mirror and start squeezing there is a technique to it and by following this advice you will reduce the chance of causing skin damage. Blackhead Removal Made EasierSqueezing blackheads or pimples is a sure way to damage your skin. The force of the debris coming out of the skin can cause damage as well. In order to minimize this damage take the following steps: 1. Get two pieces of tissue (or a sterilized gauze pad) and wrap them around your finger tips. This will keep your fingers in contact with the skin and reduce the chances of them slipping. Which usually hurts and damages your skin as well. 2. With the tissue on your finger tips gently (and I do mean gently) apply pressure to the area around the blackhead. 3. Hold this gentle pressure for several seconds. Relax the pressure and repeat. Repeat this process until the blackhead has been extracted. What happens if the blackhead does not come out using gentle pressure? If the blackhead does not come out you can do the following: * Combine 1/4 cup boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of iodine. If you don't have iodine, it's pretty cheap and can be picked up at your local drug store. Or you can skip the iodine and use only the Epsom salt. * Let mixture cool until it's not to hot to the touch. * Dip a cotton ball in the mixture making sure it's well saturated and then blot on the blackhead(s). * This mixture will help loosen the blackhead and make removal easier. * Repeat the removal process above. Gently squeezing and holding the pressure for several seconds. If the blackhead is still not coming out repeat the entire process again. Sometimes it takes forever for the blackhead to loosen up enough to come out. Try not to get frustrated and resist the urge to squeeze harder. This does nothing but damage your skin. Alternative Blackhead Removal InformationPore Tips for Blackheads - You can purchase these at your local drug store and they are fairly affordable. How effective they are, I personally don't know, I have used them myself and frankly wasn't too impressed. You might find you receive better results. Depression Tools - Again you can pick these up at your local drug store. They work by depressing the area around the blackhead for easier removal. As with using your fingers, gentle pressure is essential to ensure you do not damage your skin. Facial Peels - There are many facial peels out there designed to gently remove blackheads from your skin. Your local pharmacy or beauty store will more than like have many to choose from. Controlling Excess oil - One way to help fight blackheads is to control the excess sebum that builds up and clogs your pores. You should be able find some great all natural products to help control excess oil at your drug store. Putting an End to BlackheadsUltimately, keeping your skin blackhead free comes down to: 1. How to Benefit from the Mind-Body Connection
(excerpt)
You are about to gain insight into the
mind-body connection. The number of
people who truly understand these principles on our
planet are relatively few.
There is an undeniable connection between our minds and
bodies, you can learn
to use this fact to your benefit.
Dr. Bernie Siegel, author of "Love, Medicine and
Miracles" was once a
distraught cancer surgeon until he
began to understand the greater principles
of the mind-
body connection. He felt dragged down by the artificial
barriers
that existed between patient and doctor, and the
helplessness he often felt as
a result of his inability
to effectively serve those patients. Eventually, those
barriers
were disintegrated by Dr. Siegel's recognition
and growing understanding of the
mind-body connection and
how it could serve his patients and himself.
Dr. Siegel, or Bernie as he began to have his patients
refer to him, had some
startling realizations as a cancer surgeon. He found that
there were actually
quite a few people in the world that successfully beat
the statistics on cancer
survival. He began to recognize that a patient's ability
to defeat something as
serious as cancer had to do with the patient's mind and
attitude about their
disease.
